SAN DIEGO OFFERINGS

Once upon a time, we locals would head to Del Mar or Mission Beach to set up camp for a day of seaside drinking and partying under the sun. However, in early 2008 San Diego officially passed a Beach Alcohol Ban which now prohibits any drinking on the beach or bay.

Pissed off we were, but we smart San Diegans would never let such a legality interrupt our day-time party plans. Immediately following the Beach Alcohol Ban came the mighty rise of San Diego pool parties. Grab your bikini, heels and water guns, and hop on this trend.

As one would assume, Hard Rock Hotel San Diego was first to begin a wild pool party dubbed Intervention, as inspired by the original and now legendary Rehab event at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. We locals couldn’t get enough of Hard Rock’s iconic pool party madness, and thus began spinoffs at all luxury rooftop lounges across the downtown San Diego cityscape. From Ivy Rooftop at the Andaz Hotel to Siren Lounge at the Se Hotel, the adults-only pools at Manchester Grand Hyatt and Hilton San Diego Bayfront, and even the under-the-radar Lafayette Hotel in North Park, many of the hottest hotels in San Diego are, or have been, home to pool parties that we locals will never forget. Spreading up the San Diego coastline like wild fire, The Rave House, ahem, Wave House in Mission Beach and Arterra at Del Mar Marriott are also home to notable beach parties and posh poolside events. And when the party ends, everyone knows the only place to go is Five/Ten Sunday Intermission at Side Bar.

If you’re more into mimosa bars and brunch soirees than rowdy pool parties and beach-chic dress codes, not to worry, we have a Sunday Funday plan for you, too. From Groove 24/7 Brunch at The Pearl to Unplugged Sunday Brunch at Analog and Sunday Brunch Party at West Coast Tavern, our favorite San Diego restaurants go far beyond the eggs and entertainment basics to serve you an epic Sunday Funday bash.
